Here are the links to Gensler's design, currently the easy frontrunner, 'Gateway Tower'.Next About Salesforce Tower Chicago (Wolf Point South) It bends with the Chicago River's edge in an elegant and visually appealing way. Pre-9/11 plans for this building had it rising to the tallest height across the United States, and therefore North America, but it was scaled back after the horrors of that day. And on the site of what used to be the Chicago Sun-Times' Printing facility now proudly stands the still-newly gleaming 'Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago', another architecturally exceptional building whose only major controversy has been the large size of the 'Trump' letters that later adorned the lower region of the structure. In addition to the MAXIM article, I have attached a second link here leading you the 'Curbed Chicago' website where Gensler explains in some detail their concept and the key-most financials that they say justify this great design.Īs a related note, those who know well Chicago's great Architectural history also likely remember 'Miglin-Beitler Tower' that was seriously proposed for roughly the same area nearly 30 years ago, but obviously not built. See Gensler's further explanation in the attached link. This creates a literal gateway over Lakeshore Drive under which drivers will cross when entering and exiting the new landmark of the Gateway to the Midwest. The building creatively straddles Lakeshore Drive from the River (River East) almost to the Lakefront. The concept of Gensler's 'Gateway Tower' has authentic meaning for Chicago's purpose for and importance to the wider Midwest United States region. The look of 'X-Bracing' on the Hancock has become an important visual imprint of the building, whether most people realize its function or not. ![]() This stabilized the building at its highest levels, minimizing any sway. A close look at it might bring to your attention that this building subtly pays homage to one of Chicago's greatest architectural monuments, the John Hancock Building, with its 'X-Bracing', which was something very structurally forward-thinking at the time the Hancock Building was designed and built. This very proud new proposed building design is the result of an internal design competition at Architecture firm Gensler, mentioned in the MAXIM Magazine article (link attached). How to not throw away the soundly-designed and already-constructed deep foundation/hole that now awaits a hopeful new use, repurposing, equal to that of its original intention. So, facing Chicago after the original project was left abandoned - and literally "$50 million in the hole" - is how to pay for this. The 'Spire' was by no means short on fans it was even popular among its designer's own competition and revered as a great design that "must be built for Chicago and the United States". And in my opinion, the new design even looks leagues better than the 'Spire' design. ![]() Second only to the 'Burj Khalifa' in Dubai. ![]() This building would stand as the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere and easily be our planet's second tallest building. 'Gateway Tower' would undoubtedly redefine Chicago's already spectacular Skyline. At 2,000-Feet-Tall this Skyscraper, named 'Gateway Tower' classifies among what are referred to as 'Supertalls' after blowing past Sears Tower some years ago. The newest building which is now most likely to be greenlighted by the City of Chicago was designed by architecture firm Gensler, and if built, would return Chicago to the top two among the official list of the World's Tallest Buildings. ![]() A new solution has been very credibly proposed to "replace" Chicago's abandoned Skyscraper project known as 'The Chicago Spire', designed by architect Calatrava.
